Best Outdoor Dartboards

  1. Viper Shot King

This is a regulated size dartboard made from eco-friendly materials. It is made from Sisal, which is considered an easy renewable natural material. And that isn’t its only nice feature. When compressed nicely, like with this dartboard, it has self-healing possibilities.

Viper Shot King

This Biblical-like quality will enable you a prolonged period of usage, as long as you give it some time to rest. The movable outside ring helps you with that. You can turn the numbers to different places, so the most shot-at numbers are not always in the same area.

The spider mesh is made out of semi-round wire, so it reduces bounce-outs by letting the dart tips slide over the round surface.

With this dartboard, you will get 6 steel tip darts, which are a nice match for the dartboard. And to assure that these darts do not hit the walls so often, the producer has equipped this dartboard with a large enough catch ring.

Pros.

  • Eco-friendly materials.
  • 6 darts in the standard package.

Cons.

  • The wire is too soft for darts heavier and harder than supplied. If you use them, it can bend.
  1. EastPoint Sports Belmont Bristle Dartboard and Cabinet Set

This regulated 18-inch dartboard is made from Sisal bristle, and this eco-friendly material has a quality of self-healing. The holes will close after a while, which will prolong usage time. Movable number ring also helps.  A large catch ring is backed up by the cabinet this dartboard is placed in.

EastPoint Sports Belmont Bristle Dartboard and Cabinet Set

Besides looking nice, it also provides a convenient place for scoreboards and darts to hang. When you open the cabinet, everything you need to play is right there. Two sets of darts, two pieces of chalk, two chalk scoreboards, one eraser and dart holders.

The dimensions are 22 x 25 inches with closed cabinet doors, and 40 x 22 inches when opened.

The issue that many users report is that the metal mesh tends to slowly go out of the sisal board. That happens with time, not at once. The most common reason is that the boards are not stuck to the wall. And they have space to wiggle, vibrate when struck by the dart. Those vibrations slowly pull out the mesh, because Sisal has a tendency to push out intruders.

Pros.

  • Nice looking cabinet.
  • 6 Darts.
  • Scoreboards and everything you need to start to play.
  • Eco-Friendly materials.
  • Acceptable price.

Cons.

  • The metal mesh tends to be pushed out of the board over time, but it can be resolved by sticking the dartboard to the wall.
  1. Winmau Blade 5 Dual Core Bristle Dartboard

A high-tch dartboard by a well-known manufacturer and British Darts Organization (BDO) endorsement. Using a scientific approach to design and materials treatment, they have managed to produce a pretty good dartboard. Where to begin?

Winmau Blade 5 Dual Core Bristle outdoor Dartboard

Let’s start with the dual-core board. The outer layer is made with less compression to enable better penetration and fewer bounce-outs. The inner core is highly compressed, so it provides extra durability.

The spider mesh is thinner and angled steeper than the previous model, so the result is 14 % less wiring area on the dartboard. Combined with the steep wire angle that allows the steel tips to slide over them, the result is bunce outs as rare as the Haley comet passing.

The Winmau Blade 5 is also equipped with the adjustment wheels on the back. They are used to enable perfect alignment to the wall, and that way the vibrations and wobbling that many dartboards suffer from is prevented here.

There is also a large catch ring around the target area, so the walls are not likely to suffer damage from strayed darts.

Customers mostly complain about receiving their packages damaged, soy you should choose the seller wisely.

Pros.

  • Great quality.
  • Many improvements from the previous model.
  • Thin spider mesh.
  • Steep angled wire.
  • Dual-core Sisal board.
  • Adjustment wheels for perfect alignment

Cons.

  • Pricier than the competition.

The name is probably complicated as much as the production is, but the result is a great gaming experience and a larger scoring area.

The only downside to Winmau Diamond Plus dartboard is that it has no adjustable wheels at the back, so if your wall is not perfectly straight you will have to tape some cardboard or paper to level the board.

Viper Razorback Official Competition Bristle Dartboard

Another nice feature is that thin wire is made with a steep angle that practically guides the dart tip into the board thus reducing bounce outs.

The catch ring is quite wide, so the walls behind the dartboard will be safe.

The downside is that the numbers are barely visible in some sectors where there are white logo letters. Of course, you will see the numbers, but you don’t really want to put the effort into it. The other thing is that the surface seems a little bit rugged, almost cracked, and some users don’t like that look

  • Respectable manufacturer.
  • Sisal fibers.
  • Thin spider mesh.
  • Not Expensive.

Cons.

  • The numbers are not easily visible.

Outdoor dartboards – Buying Guide and F.A.Q.

You should be aware that the weather conditions can damage almost any material and all the materials that are used in dartboard production. So, unless you can afford a custom titanium dartboard with a diamond spider, you will have to make peace with the fact that the weather will eventually be the end of the tour dartboard.

How long will it take? It depends on you. Making some smart choices can make your outdoor dartboard outlive your in-house dartboard.

Things you should know before buying an outdoor dartboard:

  1. When in doubt, go with bristle. It is water sensitive, but the alternative is plastic dartboards or the ones with magnets and such. Keep in mind that although plastic is better at withstanding moisture and rain, it seriously falls behind in the Sun protection department. After a while, it becomes brittle and basically turns to dust. Great quality plastic materials with additives that make them more resistant to the sunlight are expensive, and that kind of dartboard can cost you much more than a great bristle one.

And the major drawback is the game feeling is not the same, not even close.

  1. Protection is the key. You must protect the dartboard, and the cabinet is the best way to go.  Cabinets offer both protection and act as a safety measure – opened door provides extra dart catching space.
  2. When choosing a cabinet make sure that the quality is appropriate. Even the prettiest cabinet do not stand a chance if they are not quality made.

Waterproof outdoor dartboard

Unfortunately, the waterproof outdoor dartboard is not yet invented. Unless you count the large, rubber, inflatable ones…

But you kick soccer balls at them, do not throw darts. They tend to be sensitive to that.

Another option is choosing a magnetic type with plastic targets with metal mesh. But they are not really a solid alternative to real darts.

The best way is still choosing a good quality bristle dartboard and protecting it with a good cover or bringing it inside doing bad weather or strong direct sunlight.

Where outside to set up dartboard?

There are several things to consider when choosing a place to set up your outdoor dartboard:

  1. Keep it away from the rain and moisture. As we said before, bristle dartboards don’t respond well to them.
  2. Keep it away from the direct sunlight. It will damage both ABS and wooden cabinets, although wooden cabinets can be renewed by painting.
  3. Choose a place where no one can be in danger of strayed darts. The best place is where you have a wall behind to catch the darts. Make sure to protect that wall too.
  4. Place the outdoor dartboard on regulated height and throw it from a regulated distance. You might have guests that are used to those measurements, and if they start throwing at the randomly placed dartboard, strayed darts can be an issue, and possibly a danger to others.

If it is for a short period, you just want to play one game, and take it inside after- you don’t need to worry about the weather. You just need to keep in mind the safety and height conditions.

People like to hang the outdoor dartboards on trees. It is not recommended because you can damage the tree and because the dartboard needs a flat surface, and as far as we know, square trunk trees are not a common thing.

The round surface of the tree will cause the board to wobble and vibrate.
